Every Animon in LumenTale: Memories of Trey has a visible main type — but many are also carrying a second, concealed typing called a Hidden Type. Hidden Types change your matchups, expand your movepool, and in some cases are the only way to make an Animon evolve. Here’s exactly how the system works and how to use it.
🔍 What Are Hidden Types?
A Hidden Type is a potential secondary typing that most Animon species can carry, concealed until you reveal it through gameplay. Two things make LumenTale’s version unusual:
- It’s per-individual, not per-species. The Hidden Type belongs to the individual creature. A species has a fixed pool of possible hidden typings, but any given wild Animon may or may not actually have one — most wild Flowende are pure Grass, while some carry the Grass–Chakra dual typing.
- Not every species has one. Some Animon have no Hidden Type at all, while others can carry one of two possibilities — Bonkey, for example, can hide either Fire or Chakra.

👁️ How to Reveal a Hidden Type
There are three ways to surface a Hidden Type:
- Scan the enemy three times in battle. Each scan costs a turn. Scans one and two reveal weaknesses; the third scan reveals stats, the Hidden Type, and the evolution chart. This also completes the AniWiki entry, so it’s worth doing even for Animon you don’t plan to catch.
- Level the Animon up. Hidden Types can surface through leveling, typically announced by the Animon unlocking type-based moves that match its hidden typing.
- Inspect before you catch. You can check a wild Animon’s details in battle before throwing a Bilia to see whether that specific individual carries the Hidden Type — do this if you’re hunting a dual-typed copy.
⚗️ The Prismatype Item: Forcing a Hidden Type
Caught a great Animon that turned out to be monotype? The craftable Prismatype item grants/activates the Hidden Type on an Animon that was caught without one.

Craft it at any rest spot — no recipe unlock is needed to start, and crafting it repeatedly unlocks the formal recipe. Crafting with Nada improves your success rate, and a “Great Success” doubles the output. One tip from veteran players: scan first, spend later. Confirm the Animon actually benefits from Hidden Type activation (or needs it to evolve) before burning the materials.
🧬 Hidden Types That Gate Evolution
Some Animon cannot evolve until their Hidden Type is revealed. Two confirmed cases:

This list grows as the community documents more species — an estimated 23 Animon have Anomalous as either their main or hidden type alone, including Megamitosa, Owaxle, Dionybble, Skeletape, Venomera, and Iotamor.
⚔️ Why Hidden Types Matter in Battle
- Movepool: An Animon’s learnset usually draws from both its visible and hidden type, so a dual-typed individual has broader coverage.
- Matchups: The Hidden Type alters overall effectiveness — two individuals of the same species can take hits very differently. After a full scan, the battle UI shows a broken-shield icon for attacks the enemy is weak to, and a shield icon for what it resists.
- Permanence: Once unlocked, a Hidden Type is preserved through Mystical Relic rebirth, so it carries into min-maxed endgame builds.

Do all Animon have a Hidden Type?
No. Some species have none, most have one possibility, and a few (like Bonkey) have a pool of two.
Is Anomalous the same thing as a Hidden Type?
No — Anomalous is a normal element (paranormal/psychic phenomena), one of the game’s 13 types. It just happens to appear frequently as a hidden typing.
Can Lost (rare variant) Animon have different Hidden Types?
