Catching is the heart of LumenTale: Memories of Trey — you build your team by capturing wild Animon out in Talea with your Holoken. There are two very different ways to do it, and picking the right one (and the right Bilia) makes the difference between a clean catch and a wasted encounter.
The two ways to catch an Animon
1. Bilia Mode — catch it in the field
With the Holoken you can aim and throw a Bilia straight at a wild Animon in the overworld, no battle required. Land the throw and a quick QTE (quick-time event) begins — succeed at it and the Animon is yours. The better you get at the QTE, the higher your catch rate climbs, so this method rewards practice. Take your time aiming before you toss.
2. Animon Mode — weaken it in battle first
Hitting a wild Animon in Animon Mode starts a battle where you have the advantage — especially if you lead with an Animon whose type is strong against it. In battle, the core rule is simple: the lower the target’s HP, the higher your catch chance. Whittle it down (without knocking it out) and then attempt the capture.
Use the right Bilia
Bilias come in different kinds, and choosing the one that best fits the Animon you’re after maximizes your odds. Matching your Bilia to the target is one of the easiest ways to stop losing catches you should have made.
Read the Animon’s behavior
Not every Animon reacts the same way when it spots you. Some stay calm and are easy to approach for a clean Bilia throw; others are aggressive and will chase you on sight, which can force a battle. Knowing a species’ temperament helps you decide whether to go for a field catch or set up an Animon Mode ambush.

- Weaken, don’t defeat. In battle, low HP boosts catch rate — but a knocked-out Animon can’t be caught.
